SHPE 7^TH GENERAL MEETING

We will be having our 7th General Meeting of the year this upcoming Thursday, January 28^th at 5:10 PM in Bourns A265.

Please mark your calendar and don’t forget to come because we will be updating you with the latest announcements and also offering a basic Resume Workshop for those who don’t have a resume and would like to get an idea on how to get started.

If you have any other ideas, then please come and share them with us. As you can see this is going to be a quarter full of fun and professional activities, so let others know and encourage them to get involved and come to our meetings.

A fee of $15 dollars is required for all nationally registered SHPE members. This amount covers your 2010 SHPE shirt, food for all meetings, and others. Among others are different events that need financial support. As you can see the amount is very little in comparison with all the benefits that you obtain for being a member including the opportunity of being selected for a $300-$1000 dollars scholarship, like Jun said in the meeting.

We ask you to be provide the amount to our treasurer, Jonathan, when you see him or to any E-board member. The faster these fees are paid, the quicker we will get our shirts.

We would like to have as many people as possible going to the meeting so a poll has been created in order to determine the best meeting time. There are two options:

1. Wednesday 6-7 PM
2. Thursday 5-6 PM

We would like you to participate in the poll on the right side of the page. There you can vote and by next week we will have a good idea of when to have our meetings.

It seems like Thursday 5-6  PM is very popular, but we need to have an official count.

Also if you have any kind of information that you would like to share with us during any meeting then contact any of the E-Board.

The 2010 SHPE Shirt Design is now finished. We will start ordering the shirt once most of the members have paid membership fees.

WHEN: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18TH, 2010

TIME: 8:00 AM – 1:00 pm

Engineering Week is coming up and we need volunteers to host our annual outreach event. We invite close to 100 high school students from around the area and give them a taste of what college is about. The format of the event will be similar to last year’s:

• Breakfast
• Presentation
• Hands-on activity
• Lab Tours
• Lunch

The event will approximately run for about 5 hours, but we need volunteers before and after to make this event successful. We are asking to join us and make this event a great one.

Remember that by volunteering, you will be giving back to the community and you will help us to be the most outstanding organization of the year once again.

WHEN: FRIDAY JAN 29-SUNDAY JAN 31 2010

TIME: 5:00 PM

WHERE: 2061 3RD LN, BIG BEAR CITY, CA 92314

You see that nice cabin up there? That will be ours for a weekend: a 4 bedroom & 3 bathroom 2-floor cabin to getaway and relax. Close to the bear mountain and snow summit.  I know many of you have been impatiently waiting for this weekend. Wait, did I mention the Jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and the plasma TV’s?

Last year we had lots of fun so we decided to do this once again. It is the perfect time to get to know the rest of the group and get your talk on. Don’t miss the opportunity to go snowboarding/skiing and barbeque with us.

There will be a $30 dollars fee which includes various meals on Saturday & Sunday, security fees, and cleaning. Most of us will go snowboarding/skiing, but there is a lift ticket involved. Since we are a larger group, we can get discounted tickets if we buy them all together. The regular price on these is about $57 dollars, but you can possible get them for $47 if we collect your money by next Monday, Jan 25. The gear should be rented up there – it’s about $23 dollars to get your boots and snowboard for the day.

Other than that, you will need warm clothing, toiletry, and some blankets (maybe a sleeping bag). You can check out more pictures of the cabin on Facebook. So add us to your friends list and check them out.

There is a limit of 6 cars in the property, so we will definitely have to leave all together. Check in is at 3:00 PM on Friday, but we are planning on leaving at around 4:30-5:00 PM because of classes on Friday. Check-out is at 11:00 AM on Sunday, but we can most likely delay that a little if needed.

Remember, you only have 1 week to pay the $30 dollars which will assure you a spot in the cabin and $47 dollars for your lift ticket if we want to get them cheaper. You will need to contact our treasurer Jonathan (jsala011@ucr.edu) or Roberto (rlope007@ucr.edu) to get your spot saved.

We will be having a Poker & Blackjack night this Thursday. If you don’t know how to play then it’s fine because somebody will be there to help you out. If you think you’re a master, then come show it off to the good players.

Bring a friend, and let’s get the tournament going. Be prepared for a fun night even if you will not play!

We will be having our 2nd Bowling Fundraiser of the year. I encourage everybody to come and support us on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 8:15 PM. Please spread the word and let’s make this bowling fundraiser a unique one.

We will be arranging rides for those that need one, so let us know ahead of time. We will meet on campus around 8:00PM.

Bowling at Brunswick is fun at its best. There’s something for everyone – bowling, billiards, video games. It’s a great way to get out, cut loose and grab some smiles.
