Some of our members are already registered for the Conference. The process is very easy and should be smooth. We will be discussing further information during our first meeting today, so don’t forget to attend.

There is only about 150 lodging spots left, so we need to hurry up and register as soon as possible in order represent UC, Riverside well at the Conference.

We will be meeting up in one of the computer labs today after the meeting to register members to the national SHPE website and help people interested to register for the Conference. Don’t forget to be there.

SHPE has already started a soccer team to participate in this quarter’s intramural sport tournament. If you’re interested in signing up for the team, then contact will or e-mail the e-board.

Last year we got 2nd place and we are hoping this year we can go for 1st.

We can also start another team in case a lot of people are interested. Don’t forget we can also sign up for other sports. So if you would like to start a team, then let us know.

SHPE at UCR will be having our first general meeting of the year! Exciting news here. You do not want to miss out all the information we have ready for you. We will be answering any type of questions you may have about the organization and will also have a few fun activities to give you the opportunity to meet other students/members. Remember that food will be served, too.

We will be helping interested students become members and register on-site. We also want to thank everyone who visited us at our Block Party Booth. We had a great time and everything went great.

* In order to attend the National Conference, you will need a resume uploaded to the “oneshpe” website, so make sure you at least have a rough draft to upload to “oneshpe” and then polish yours here and re-upload once again.

The Chicano Student Programs (CSP) at UCR would like our support to join them at the “Meet the Orgs” event taking place on October 6th, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at the Highlander Union Building (HUB) 255 room.

We have planned to have a table at the event and take advantage of the opportunity to introduce our organization to other students. If you’re interested in attending the event please contact the e-board.

In attempts to secure the participation of President Obama, we are in need of your assistance. An invitation was sent to his office this past April.

We need every single member, and we mean every single member, to write to President Obama asking for his participation at the SHPE Conference. Your letters will increase the chances of him attending our event. A sample letter that can be used by you for this effort can be found at http://neptune.shpe.org/shpe2009/images/shpe2009/obama_letter_campaign.pdf. The letter should be emailed to gomezdiana82@gmail.com and should be sent ASAP. The letters will be printed and mailed in several packages. Lets starting writing!

The BCOE Leadership Council will host the mandatory orientation for all student organization officers on next Tuesday, Sept 29^th 6:30 – 8:00 PM at EBUII 103. This is required for all student orgs’ officers to attend, to get a chance to meet others, learn all processes related to funding & regulations, but also meet with representatives from Career Center and MESA office for career workshop or outreach opportunities for your organization.

Dinner and refreshments will be served at the meeting (not pizza), please come on time! Looking forward to see you all!

We’re very proud to say that we did a great job during the Fall Welcome Freshmen Orientation. We met a lot of new people who are interested in the organization. We are hopeful that this year will be a great one and thus open an invitation for everybody interested in joining the group to do it as soon as possible to enjoy all the benefits of becoming a member.

We hope that events like this will keep happening and being a success as well.

* We want to thank Jonathan for attending the long 6 hour Student Life retreat that same day!

We will be attending this year’s SHPE Region 2 “Summer Leadership Retreat” and would like to invite you to join us as well. The Retreat will take place in Hemet, CA. Transportation should not be a problem so you are welcome to ride with us.

Last year’s SLR went very good and we expect this year’s to be as great. Don’t forget to mark this event in your calendar and be ready to meet SHPE members from other Region 2 chapters.
